In his defense. Dave wasn't so much "hostile" as "chill but offensive". Regardless, his eyes widen behind the shades as he sees the catgirl tense and spring and oh shit that's legitimate intense to attack. He's instantly moving to throw up a guard – if there's anything his shitty childhood was good for, it's having learned to react quickly to unexpected violence.

But then suddenly there's large, fast movement in his peripheral, and then before he can dodge or get maimed or anything, there's a goddamn wolfman snagging him by the collar to separate them.

Instinctively, his heart goes racing and his hands dart up at the bug furry hand grabbing him. It's contact with said furry hand that sparks the second thought, the this is not another Jack and it's kinda intervening in a nonviolent helpful way huh. Right. Okay. Hands over his head grabbing at the furry arm to keep from getting choked by his own collar, he just says the only thing that comes to mind.
