Nearly throwing his life away is something Guts has done for a good long time. The visible scarring on his body and singular talent for killing things should be hint enough. A few years ago, he might not have cared to survive. He would absolutely dash himself on the rocks to see how far his body could take him in splitting it open - but it's different now.
