"Yeah. War doesn't make children grow up faster. It traumatizes them out of certain behaviors while they're still becoming adults. Their neurological development doesn't speed up over it, it just changes direction."

It's not even at Price that he bristles at the statement. People say platitudes all the time, for one reason or another, but Price accidentally stumbled on a platitude he deeply disagrees with. So he keeps his body language directed away from Price, at a general "them" who tut about children "growing up to fast" like it's less than an individual tragedy, every time.

Rather than get bogged down thinking of the wars he's seen children give up certain soft or immature behaviors for, replace with hard and cold ones, Bunny shakes his head and begins growing yet another strawberry planet. "Anyway. This is the first time I've talked to adult humans, ah . . . "

He has to think about that, actually, pausing to do some math, then giving up on it in favor of growing the plant, driving the white flowers into red fruit.

"In a longer time than it's worth figuring out. Even the New Hire kids here are too old to have believed in me in a while. It's been interesting." He tosses Price a strawberry. "You're not allergic, are you? I'm trying a different strain, tell me what you think."
