Dan gives Sam a quick, sympathetic, unquestioning nod. He and Sam have discussed the bare surface of things that have happened to them, and he knows some of the things that have happened to Sam are bad. He won't go digging, just acknowledge that Sam's high pain tolerance for this sort of thing is hard-earned and an unfair burden to have shouldered, once upon a time.
"Don't like that," he says, glancing over at how the handlers are reacting to him handling Bunny. He hands Bunny back, aware that likely the only place Bunny feels more secure than in his hands is in Acacia's.
"Nuh uh," Virginia says, voice brittle and scratchy like stale bread being sawed into.
