3..2...1...CONTACT!

Who: The New Hires
What: Sudden Memory Share
Where: Their Memory Palaces
When: After "Don't Touch That Dial"
Warnings/Notes: Possible in every memory, warn in subject lines.

Contact.

It's during a pause in their day. A nap. An idle moment looking across the Top Deck. Taking a slow breath between reps in the training room.

The New Hires are connected. Mental pathways locking together, they're forced into one another's innermost beings. Thrust into one another's memory palaces where the mind collects and stores everything that makes them who they are. The core of their beings are only a few steps away and no one can help the violation.

To make matters worse, it comes with no explanation or no ability to pull out and stop. Once they're through the first memory, perhaps they can find a way out, but they're already witnessing some event from their host's past. And, if they left, who knows whether or not they'd end up accidentally invading another memory palace?

And if they were there, who was in theirs?

[[So, how this works: the memories can either be viewed in spectator mode or the guest can be experiencing everything themselves. The person whose memories are being shown, the host, can watch as their current self or take the form they had of their past self. They can talk about the memory with the "guest" that's visiting.

They cannot control the first memory shown, the player decides that, but they can control any other memories they'd like to show people after. Of course, there's also always the option of an extreme emotional reaction bringing up other memories unbidden.]]

It doesn't take long for Merton to get over his confusion over suddenly, and very literally, finding himself in the dark. Mirroring Stacia's sentiment out loud when his eyes follow the path of the flashlight beams to the other Stacia, covered in blood and the tatters of a dress.

As the real Stacia gives the warning to cover his ears, he quickly follows her advise, preemptively shrinking back some.

He's not the only one who shrinks back: the men surrounding past-Stacia recoil when she starts screaming, the one who'd crouched down to (presumably) make himself look less threatening falls over backward in his alarm. She screams and throws handfuls of forest detritus at them until they've retreated well out of reach, then segues into hysterical sobbing. A wolf -- which are surprisingly enormous animals in person, for all that they look like dogs in photographs -- manifests from the trees around them, apparently summoned by the noise. She gives the men a rather judgmental look before padding over to past-Stacia and nuzzling against her.

"The lungs on that girl," Stacia says affectionately, gazing at her past self. Then she grimaces and waves at Merton to lower his hands. "Sorry. This wasn't how I'd planned to kick off that werewolf-chat we were going to have."

As the wolf crept out into view, he watched with a sort of awe. Even with all the research he'd done on the subject of wolves and werewolves both, it was so easy to forget or underestimate their size. And man, he never would have thought a wolf would be capable of looking judgmental but this one sure managed to pull it off.

"T-that's-? You have full wolf forms?" Following her motion to lower his hands as he stammers that out, his eyes stay glued to the memory of Stacia and the wolf as it moved up to her in a way that seemed like it was trying to be to be comforting. Tommy had said something about the werewolf that attacked him looking like a regular wolf, but Merton had sort of brushed it off as a product of trauma, since Tommy was incapable of that sort of transformation. Sure, some werewolves looked more bestial than others, and arguably that had been the case with the man who turned Tommy (though not by much, based off what Merton had personally seen of him), but they had no solid proof werewolves from their world were capable of anything beyond a form that was frankly, more man than wolf.

This was probably the last question he should be asking in this situation though. Here was a memory of Stacia waking up covered in blood, surrounded by, presumably strange men, and he was asking about the wolf that just came padding on to the scene. Discomfort quickly creeped back in and he gave the men an uneasy look.

"Are they all wolves?" Frankly, he wasn't sure if that would make their presence better or worse, but at least they didn't seem to be advancing or making any threatening moves for the moment.

Stacia hides a laugh behind her hand. Frankly, she's much more interested in talking about her shapeshifting abilities than she is talking the blood.

There's a lot of blood she doesn't want to talk about.

"Yeah, we can go full wolf," she says. "It's no harder than shifting to wolf-monster, or even full human." She hasn't mentioned Glabro or Hispo to anyone here yet; she'll cross that bridge when she comes to it.

"And yeah, they're all werewolves," she says, endeared by the fact Merton's worried about that. "Shield, Bulletproof, and Ace. Nicknames, obviously. And the wolf is Athena."

The one she'd pointed out as Ace takes off his coat and wads it up, tossing it at Athena and Stacia's past self. Athena pulls free long enough to retrieve it, because the remains of Stacia's dress don't qualify as clothing and being mostly naked certainly isn't helping anything.

"I'm pretty sure Ace had already decided to adopt me as his baby cousin at this point," Stacia adds for further reassurance.
