3..2...1...CONTACT!
Who: The New Hires
What: Sudden Memory Share
Where: Their Memory Palaces
When: After "Don't Touch That Dial"
Warnings/Notes: Possible in every memory, warn in subject lines.
Contact.
It's during a pause in their day. A nap. An idle moment looking across the Top Deck. Taking a slow breath between reps in the training room.
The New Hires are connected. Mental pathways locking together, they're forced into one another's innermost beings. Thrust into one another's memory palaces where the mind collects and stores everything that makes them who they are. The core of their beings are only a few steps away and no one can help the violation.
To make matters worse, it comes with no explanation or no ability to pull out and stop. Once they're through the first memory, perhaps they can find a way out, but they're already witnessing some event from their host's past. And, if they left, who knows whether or not they'd end up accidentally invading another memory palace?
And if they were there, who was in theirs?
[[So, how this works: the memories can either be viewed in spectator mode or the guest can be experiencing everything themselves. The person whose memories are being shown, the host, can watch as their current self or take the form they had of their past self. They can talk about the memory with the "guest" that's visiting.
They cannot control the first memory shown, the player decides that, but they can control any other memories they'd like to show people after. Of course, there's also always the option of an extreme emotional reaction bringing up other memories unbidden.]]

[ She watches that demonstration with fascination. ] That's wild.
Shit like this happened once in Proles, twice in the fleet. But then it was like... really solid. So this is a lot better even if it's still shitty?
Getting eaten by someone else's traumatic memory is... not great.

"Alright, show me," the memory of Dan, laying on the blanket and looking up at the stars, says. The sky's purple and florid with stars.
"Don't freak out," the girl says, and she holds her hands out, palms down, eyes closed.
"I never freak out," Dan in the memory says, waiting.
Dan, here with Wrath:]
Sorry it's happened to you before, too. If I end up in your memories, you got my word I won't talk about them to no one else. I'd appreciate the same kindness if you can spare it.
[Behind him, in the memory, the blanket, the car, the thermos and the vodka, the camera, Dan and the girl himself all peacefully levitate a solid three inches off the ground. The girl's brow is tight with focus. After a moment, she closes her open palms into fists, and everything sinks, feather-like, back to a comfortable rest on the ground.
"You're incredible, Ellie." The memory of Dan grins as a star shoots across the sky. He looks at the girl. "Ain't that nicer than tearing people to ribbons?"
"Easier cleanup, for sure," she agrees, then points at the sky. "Look at the sky, not at me. You keep missing the big ones."]

[ Come to think of it, it's an open question how much of her memory before a certain point is even true. That's... fun. ]
But you don't have to worry about me talking.
[ She looks up at the sky. ]
It's really nice to see this, though. If it's okay to look.

So he explains a little further to Wrath, wondering how long they'll linger here watching Ellie and this past version of himself or if they'll end up inside Wrath's memories or another one of his.]
You got light pollution where you're from?

[ Wrath isn't sure how this particular memory thing works, but sometimes you can try to show people stuff on purpose. She frowns, trying to find a clear memory that might explain it.
She turns around to look behind them, the sky above changing to something half-light and choked with smoke and some kind of inhospitable atmosphere, stinking of rot and death at varying stages of decay. In the distance, Proles sits, though now the city is invisible behind the wall and the smooth, glittering dome that sits over top of it. To the left and right stretch out the fortifications that built the Line, peppered with the shapes of black-uniformed soldiers, though far fewer than there should be for the distance being covered.
The army is pulling back. ]
