Ah yes, Jennifer is in pure delight. Back in her day, this wasn't a thing and now not only she, who will romanticize everything, gets to celebrate love, she gets to witness people be happy as they celebrate with her. She waves happily at whoever enters and nods towards all the available material.

There is indeed lots of booze, which one wouldn't expect from Jennifer but hey, Price helped. There's rainbow cake, and biscuits with the flags on it. Before everyone arrives she innocently asks one of the staff members in the kitchen if she can eat a lesbian one. There's a box with pins and facepaints. Some people are sporting funny or sexy costumes. She is wears her usual hairdo, but decorates it with a rose, paired with a simple white dress. She drinks her tea and is happy, and just a little bit too clueless of what can happen during these kinds of celebrations...

Brand raises his eyebrows at her, because that's the only possible fucking answer to "you got something you wanna share with the class". Brand has never wanted to share something with the class in his life and South certainly knows it.

"This about the cookie?" he asks, spotting the twin to his own in her hand. "I can't keep the fucking flags straight." He lets that statement hang there. "Appropriately, I guess."

She snorts a laugh, "Yeah, real appropriately. Obviously it's about the cookie, you managed to grab the fuckin' lesbian flag and in my professional opinion, I'm pretty sure you don't qualify unless I've really missed something."

She's clearly still being a shit, it's not like she actually cares he's eating the "wrong" cookie, it's literally just a cookie, but she'll take her amusement where she can get it these days. She takes a bite of her own, a swig of her drink, and leans against the wall a little ways to the side of him.

"I've got nothing against lesbians," Brand says, taking another bite of his cookie. "But there's no fucking point in going where I'm not wanted. Which one's the flag for 'your gender is irrelevant to whether I'm down to fuck'?"

Fuck, he's probably going to have to care about this shit for the kids, isn't he?

She angles her bottle towards a small pile of Pan flag cookies on one of the tables, "Pink, yellow and blue one, I'm pretty sure. It's been a while, but eh, I think I remember most of 'em right."

She's not an encyclopedia, but she knows enough. Her sexuality was one of the only things in her life that was real fuckin' simple, it caused her no issues at all. She did more work helping her brother figure himself out than she ever needed herself.

(Fuck, does everything have to remind her of some memory or another? Ugh, whatever.)

Brand jerks his chin in a nod of acknowledgment.

"Most people in New Atlantis don't give a fuck who you like to fuck," he says. "And the ones that do limit their judgment to their own families. If you need an heir and don't want to produce one the traditional way, you can adopt a cousin off another branch of the family tree." He finishes off his cookie. "Not saying everything's great there, but that part of it seems way less of a pain in the ass than the way the humans do it."

South snorts. "Sure sounds simpler. I mean, by the time I'm from, things are alright. Only mega-assholes really give a fuck, otherwise no one cares, but that doesn't mean it's not sometimes a whole thing."

She sips her drink, shrugs.

"Not for me, though. Crushed on a girl when I was a kid, never looked back, no one gave a fuck. Only sneaking around I ever did was just 'cause it was my business, not anyone else's. Woulda done it even if I liked dudes."

"Wouldn't call anything I did 'sneaking around'," Brand says. "My nights off were my nights off. Though it got a lot easier once I was old enough to go to bars or the Green Docks and not have to deal with not-looking-for-a-relationship song and dance."

A satisfied grin curls his lips. "Though I did beat the shit out of some of Rune's exes without him knowing. Twenty years on and Geoffrey still looked ready to piss himself when I showed up." He shakes his head. "At least Rune's got better taste in men these days."

"Multiple exes of his risked facing your wrath? Sounds like a sign of some real fuckin' poor judgement on their part." She snickers a little. "Given a few shovel talks in my time, but I only ever had to threaten to follow up on it once."

North may have been the hyper-protective one, but that kinda thing was always more her wheelhouse than his.

"The song and dance is a pain," she agrees. "Left actual dating behind in my teens. No time for that shit in the military. Most people agreed, kept things simple."

Nevermind her stupid crush in Freelancer. She didn't act on it, so it doesn't count.

"Have you met the children of the rich and powerful?" Brand scoffs and shakes his head. "They're fucking idiots. It never occurs to them that there might be consequences for their actions until you stamp the consequences through their thick skulls."

South snorts a laugh. "I grew up so poor that I literally haven't, but yeah, no, I 100% buy that. Who needs sense when you've got money I guess."
