Invasion!
Who: The New Hires
What: Sudden Memory Share
Where: Their Memory Palaces
When: After Intermission
Warnings/Notes: Possible in every memory, warn in subject lines.
Contact.
It's during a pause in their day. A nap. An idle moment looking across the Top Deck. Taking a slow breath between reps in the training room.
The New Hires are connected. Mental pathways locking together, they're forced into one another's innermost beings. Thrust into one another's memory palaces where the mind collects and stores everything that makes them who they are. The core of their beings are only a few steps away and no one can help the violation.
To make matters worse, it comes with no explanation or no ability to pull out and stop. Once they're through the first memory, perhaps they can find a way out, but they're already witnessing some event from their host's past. And, if they left, who knows whether or not they'd end up accidentally invading another memory palace?
And if they were there, who was in theirs?
[[So, how this works: the memories can either be viewed in spectator mode or experiencing everything themselves. The person whose memories are being shown, the host, can watch as their current self or take the form they had of their past self.
They cannot control the first memory shown, the player decides that, but they can control any other memories they'd like to show people. Of course, there's always the option of an extreme emotional reaction bringing up memories unbidden.]]

They are custom made, after all. His mind was already exceptional, and a few years back, after he was changed, advanced by an unnatural force, it started to run too fast altogether. Whenever his personality inhibitors are off, his multiple tracks of consciousness decohere and start racing off in different directions, completely uncoordinated.
There is such thing as too advanced, too smart, too powerful.
After a childhood of being mistreated for it, it's strange seeing a child treated terribly for not being powerful enough. They all seem rather human and unless this is a world where all humans are metas, it's difficult to understand why one would be so abused for being baseline human.
And it is abuse. It took him many years - and discovering his son, genetically engineered and conceived without his knowledge, mistreated in secret like he'd been - to be able to call it that word. "Abuse." To be able to say "I am a child abuse survivor." To stand in court and tell the judge and jury - and the entire UP - what it really meant to be a Brainiac.
He is uncomfortable watching this but guesses correctly that the focal point is the little girl, mistreated and shoved out.
"Can you see me?" he asks her, not sure if he can influence this sudden and surprising vision.

"...Yeah. I see you," she says, her brow furrowing as her consciousness shifts out of the pattern of the memory, though she still looks like a young teenage girl. "What are you doing here?"

A pause.
"Your name is Vanya, yes? One of my 'coworkers-'" air quotes "- on the rig has that name."
He saw her first comm post but had declined to answer. He'd been engrossed in working on some of his Lonestar code at the time.
"Do you remember the rig?"

The world around them has gone ever so still. Surely the family is getting its photograph taken, but there aren't any more murmurs coming from the living room, no shutter of a camera flash. The memory is suspended for a moment--after all, Vanya wasn't there when the photograph was actually taken.

"I've seen you around but haven't gotten around to introducing myself. My apologies." He looks around. "I also apologize for this...transgression of boundaries. I do have mild empathic abilities but so far it doesn't seem that I have full telepathy. I'm not sure what's causing this."
